Over the past week, information relating to the Corona Viruses (COVID-19) has increased substantially. The Grass Roots Community Activist Movement value the health and safety of the Black Community as our top priority.
With the uncertainty surrounding the outbreak of the Corona Virus pandemic, the Grass Roots Community Activist Movement want to reassure our readers across the globe. GRCAM will remain online and available for our members who need a trusted source of unbiased information.
The (COVID-19) pandemic makes clear our global human interconnectedness and the responsibilities we have to one another. We have no precedent for its challenges, but we do know that our best response relies on the sort of global empathy, cooperation, and community building that sit at the heart of our movement.
Our Corona Virus blog post have receive positive likes since the start of the pandemic. We are proving that, even in a time of social distancing, we can celebrate our human bond by coming together online to share facts and information. We will keep working to bring you reliable and neutral information. Now, as ever, our priority is to remain worthy of your trust.
I want to share some background information as it pertains to the virus. What is a Corona Virus?In a nutshell it’s a virus that jumps from one species to the next. Corona Viruses are a group of related viruses that cause diseases in mammals and birds. In humans, Corona Viruses cause respiratory tract infections that can be mild, such as some cases of the common cold, and others that can be lethal, such as SARS or MERS. The proper name is COVID-19.
Examples of Corona Virus are the common cold, Merce & SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome). SARS made the leap from cats to humans. Now we got (COVID-19) which has made the leap from bats to humans. It originated in Wuhan province in China. The Chinese Government dismiss a physician who tried to warn the government about a new type of strain. We don’t have any type of vaccines as a cure. The medical community doesn’t have a lot of experience to help the public.
Symptoms in other species vary: in chickens, they cause an upper respiratory tract disease, while in cows and pigs they cause diarrhea. There are yet to be vaccines or antiviral drugs to prevent or treat human Corona Virus infections. They are enveloped viruses with a positive-sense single-stranded RNA genome and a nucleocapsid of helical symmetry. The genome size of Coronaviruses ranges from approximately 27 to 34 kilobases, the largest among known RNA viruses.
Representative Grace Meng tweeted on March 3rd that misinformation & xenophobia about the Corona Virus have hit Asian American-owned businesses hard. She suggest that Congress must pass legislation for interest free loans available to Asian Small Businesses that have been impacted. Then on March 5th President Trump is expected to sign this $8.3B spending package into law. Critical to dedicate the resources needed to respond to the Corona Virus, and not forget about the many small businesses that have been negatively impacted. The line about we can’t do something that will benefit only black people they never say that to other groups. No body has offered black people a stimulus package. Take notice of the career politicians & entertainers who are putting other groups interest ahead of ours. Be smart, be proactive and be safe. We encourage our members to follow the CDC’s preventative measures:
- Frequently wash your hands with soap and water.
- Cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
- Avoid close contact with sick people.
- Frequently disinfect objects and surfaces using cleaning spray or wipes.
